We started our final day on the top of Schumacher’s Hill and had quite a few short-distance guest walkers with us for the stretch into Crane Valley. Momentum was strong as we descended the hill and progressed toward our neighbouring village. Once in Crane Valley a parade of vehicles whizzed by us as we took photographs around the classic highway mileage signs. After strolling around the streets we ventured eastbound for our last lap to Ormiston.
We paced ourselves by milestones such as Dead Chicken Curve, Johnson’s trees and the final few gentle hills into town. The trees around Ormiston were an encouraging sight as the summer sun was sizzling and feet were getting a little weary. We marched into Ormiston at 1 pm to a cheering crowd and completed a victory lap up Main and around to the town hall where we were welcomed to cool beverages, lots of high-fives and congratulatory greetings. The barbecues were fired up and lunch was served. The social reunited 70 or so folks that have connections to Ormiston and District. A brief thank you to the walking team and those in attendance finalized the program. People lingered and seemed reluctant to leave, but we wrapped up at around 4:30 pm.
A final summary of the walkathon, the participants and the funds raised will be on the blog tomorrow. Thanks for tuning in!
